Taxation Committee

Objectives

The Taxation Committee represents the interests of members of the private equity and venture capital industry in taxation matters.

The Committee builds dialogue with the Treasury, HMRC, other Government departments and other policy influencers to ensure the industry is represented in any changes to taxation policy that could affect it.

The Governance Handbook provides our directors, members and employees with a summary of our governance structure. This includes information on how our Council, Committees and Advisory Groups are constituted and is supplementary to the Articles of Association.

Activities

  • Maintaining dialogue with HM Revenue and Customs, HM Treasury, Government ministers and officials to ensure members’ interests are reflected in any changes made to tax policy.
  • Responding to relevant Government consultations and reviews of issues affecting the industry.
  • Working with other representative bodies in the UK and internationally to ensure members have a voice in developing tax policy.
  • Working with the Government to improve the competitiveness of the UK as a location for the industry.
  • Informing members and other stakeholders about the UK tax regimes applying to the industry and relevant developments.
  • Engages with HM Treasury and HMRC on tax issues affecting venture capital funds, investors, founders and high-growth businesses.
  • Develops evidence-based policy recommendations and coordinates industry input to consultations on matters impacting the UK venture ecosystem.

Committee structure

The Tax Committee oversees UK Private Capital's engagement on tax policy issues affecting the private capital industry. Its work is supported by three specialist subcommittees: the Business Tax Subcommittee, the Personal Tax Subcommittee and the Venture Tax Subcommittee. Together, these groups provide technical expertise, identify emerging tax issues and contribute to UK Private Capital's consultation responses, policy development and engagement with HM Treasury and HMRC.
