Sustainability Reporting Hub

Supporting the private capital sustainability reporting ecosystem

Introduction

Sustainability data (covering environmental, social and governance, or ESG, data) is increasingly critical for demonstrating progress on material issues, informing investor decision‑making and meeting evolving regulatory expectations. However, challenges around data quality, consistency and the volume of requests, particularly across diverse portfolio companies, risk turning reporting into a purely-for-compliance exercise rather than a source of strategic insight. With forthcoming UK adoption of ISSB standards, Mansion House Reforms and incoming European standards expected to accelerate demand for high‑quality, decision‑useful information, a more coordinated and proportionate approach is needed to avoid disproportionate burdens on smaller firms whilst enabling improved data quality and greater transparency.

Furthermore, increased expectations for disclosure transparency through industry-led frameworks like the updated Walker Guidelines are driving more accurate corporate data. As the UK’s private capital trade body, we are well placed to support the ecosystem by improving understanding of available options and promoting consistent, streamlined practices. This tool has been designed to help demystify reporting for firms of all sizes across the private capital landscape. In an ever evolving, and at times confusing, regulatory landscape the Hub provides clarity and guidance to enable firms to focus on what is material to them at their stage of growth and development. My hope is that ultimately this tool enables more firms to embed sustainability at the core of their operations, enabling them to mitigate risks and maximise opportunities; whilst also ensuring that the private capital industry continues to be a force for positive change in this strategically important space.

Aim of the Sustainability Reporting Hub

The Sustainability Reporting Hub (referred to as the Hub) is a navigational resource designed to improve the effectiveness of sustainability reporting in private capital by promoting convergence across the investment spectrum. It clarifies the role and value of existing sustainability frameworks, templates and guidance, outlines good‑practice considerations for achieving convergence and recognises the need for proportionate reporting requirements across different investment stages. The Hub supports LPs, GPs and portfolio companies in delivering meaningful sustainability reporting that drives real‑world outcomes and systemic change.

This resource does not mandate or endorse any specific framework, tool or practice. Its purpose is to present a range of options available for firms and companies to consider and utilise as appropriate.
