Private capital associations join forces to advance ESG reporting harmonisation

New and updated templates aim to reduce duplication and improve the consistency and usefulness of ESG information across private capital.

Invest Europe, France Invest and UK Private Capital today announced the launch of new and updated ESG reporting templates, reinforcing their shared commitment to more consistent and comparable ESG reporting across the private equity and venture capital ecosystem.

The launch includes the 2026 editions of the Invest Europe and France Invest ESG Reporting Templates, alongside the new UK VC ESG Reporting Template. Together these initiatives aim to bring ESG reporting requests into closer alignment, reduce unnecessary duplication and improve the availability of consistent, comparable and decision-useful information for limited partners (LPs), general partners (GPs) and portfolio companies.

Developed in partnership with Reframe Venture, the updated Invest Europe template – covering metrics at portfolio company, GP and fund level – continues to support ESG reporting across the broader European private capital market. The 2026 edition focuses on improving proportionality, alignment, usability and clarity, while taking into account recent market developments and maintaining continuity with previous editions to support historical data comparability.

This year, the update of the France Invest ESG templates has focused on stability and on further strengthening the cooperation between Invest Europe and France Invest. By ensuring continuity with the previous version and making the questionnaires available earlier in the year, we are giving our members more time to prepare their ESG reporting campaigns, while supporting greater consistency in our ESG Benchmark.

Alongside the European templates, UK Private Capital, Reframe Venture and the British Business Bank have launched a standardised ESG reporting template for UK venture capital. Developed in consultation with institutional asset owners, asset managers and VC fund managers, it aligns reporting requests around a common set of metrics.

By promoting a more harmonised approach to ESG data collection and reporting, the templates aim to make reporting more useful and proportionate, allowing LPs, GPs and portfolio companies to direct more time and resources towards informed decision-making and long-term value creation.
